... my Giant Granny Panties {quilt}. Here it is in the wash. I got a good giggle out of posting on Instagram that I was washing my granny panties.
Little did I know that I would be getting some really good use out of my new quilt right away. I've had some random mystery fever for two weeks now. Other than the fever, fatigue, and aching I've had no other symptoms. Weird.
By Thursday of that first week I was tired of walking around with a fever so I went to the doctor. Gus and I spent Friday and most of the weekend on the couch.
I re-read one of my favorite books...
And another... {yes those are Chaney's tiny toes}
...and another one.
Why am I reading a lot of old classics? Other than the fact that I love them, Chaney's reading level has really taken off and the books she's been bringing home aren't really cutting it anymore. So we've been in search of age appropriate books on her level. I remember reading To Kill a Mockingbird when I was about her age but after re-reading and really thinking about it from her perspective, I think that one needs to be shelved a few more years. She is a pretty sensitive kid and even though that book is narrated by a character her age I think the content might be a bit too much for her.
The other reason I've been reading books... real books... is because I don't think kids in general are seeing enough people reading around them. Sure, we are reading on Kindles, iPads, etc but it may not look like that to them. Just as easy as I could be reading on my iPad I could also be playing around on Instagram and I think she knows that. So more real books for me! Plus I love the way they smell and feel in my hands. Yep, I know I'm weird...
*off my soapbox* ;)
By that Sunday night I was so bored that I started fabric shopping browsing from the couch. But other than that, there was no fabric, sewing or anything interesting going on other than the vintage sheet scrap pack that showed up courtesy of Amanda that totally made my day!
I'm feeling a little better today and I'm working on taking pictures of a few quilts. This Friday I'll be doing a Giant Granny Panties {quilt} feature. You don't have to be finished but I'd love to see your fabric, progress and of course finished tops & quilts. You can either add your pictures to our Flickr group or like some of you have, email me your pictures or blog links.
I hope your week is off to a great start!

I love the other quilt pictured with your giant granny panties (I love that name!), do you have a tutorial for that one as well?
Sorry to hear you've been under the weather. I totally understand what you are saying about hard copy books. I like options. I was stuck at an airport and the wifi was out! Yikes! No book to read!
Hope you're feeling better.
And yay for real books! I get nostalgic for the feel and smell of actual books though I find myself reading the e-versions more and more these days. I've always got at least one on my phone for when I find myself in line or in a waiting room. So handy!
Is it too early for Jane Austen? If I can think of any good appropriate lit, I'll send you a note!
I hope you're feeling better too! And am so glad you said what you did about books. I feel the same way and have so many books in our house, I just hope my kids will develop a love of "real" books through it. I have the same To Kill a Mockingbird book and love the cover. My mom read it to us out loud when I was 10 or 11 and I totally agree with you that it can be a bit heavy...I love Jane Eyre (I remember being one of two or three in my class in high school english who actually read it and loved it, lol).
The quilts and all your pictures are so fun, thank you for sharing!
I don't mean to alarm you, but have you considered West Nile? You are in Texas.
I posted a pic on the flickr site :)
I'm with you - nothing beats a real book. Kindle is fantastic, but real paper will always be the best. Hope you're feeling better soon and that all the quilt snuggling helps. Looking forward to seeing those diamonds! x x
I love the convenience of my nook, but I do make sure my kids see me reading real books. No shortage of those around here. It's difficult, judging reading levels and age appropriate books. I'm having the same trouble right now with my daughter. Luckily, she's very into dragon fantasy books and I have lots of great ones for her to read. Good luck!
Hope you feeling a lot better real soon!
I agree that it's important for children to see their parents reading "real" books!
When I was a Junior in high school, back in the stone age(1963), and I was 15, I read To Kill A Mockingbird. when I had to give an oral book report, which I hated, my teacher asked me if I had my mother's permission to read it! (My mother had given it to me to read). It was because rape was discussed. Boy, have times changed....for the good, thank goodness!
I'm glad you are feeling better today. I agree with you about reading. I just ended my term on our local library board and often worry about the next generation reading out of "real" books. Technology is absolutely wonderful and convenient but there is nothing like holding a book. I used to have a pillow case when I was little out of the pink striped fabric in your vintage sheet pack. :)
I hope you are feeling better soon! Being an English teacher, I completely agree with you on your view of books. I love the feel and smell of books. We need to model reading to our children!!!
I just did a post on reading the classics! Finished Jane Eyre last week and started on Dracula...for Halloween! I'm loving the classics! Can't wait to see a full pic of your granny panties!! LOL!!
There's nothing like a book with pages to turn in the hands. I know that technology is the thing these days but I love the feel of books!
Love the Granny Quilt and look forward to seeing the whole thing!
Hope you're feeling better by now.
I have been loving listening to classic audiobooks on my iPhone while in my Halloween sweatshop. Right now I'm listening to Emma. I've read all of Jane Austen's books in the past, but they never get old. Feel better.
Sorry you've been sick. Reading real books is a great pasttime for when you're sick though. I don't have any of those reading gadgets. I prefer to hold a book and turn the pages. I too read some of the classics not too long ago, just because I didn't really appreciate them in school when it was "required" reading.
Blah to feeling sick! Hope you feel better soon. In the meantime, keep looking at that pupply face on your granny panties quilt. Adorable!
I spy your diamond quilt! Hope you are feeling better. Also loved the post on your new bag....so cute!
