After 1600 miles, in 7 days, all in Texas... I'm home! We had a wonderful time floating the lazy river, swimming, eating, drinking, sightseeing, shopping, and spending time together as a family. Oh, and watching the Olympics; you can't forget that!
We went to Fredericksburg, TX one day and visited the Nimitz and Pacific War museum. We spent three hours there and I highly recommend it. Chaney enjoyed it and was fascinated by all the hands-on features. The Pacific War section of the museum is brand new and they have done a fabulous job telling the story, especially with all the artifacts.
The other highlight of Fredericksburg was the fabric shop we went to. I've been there once before but I wasn't quilting obsessed like I am now.
When I own my own quilt shop I will display my bolts like these!
They had tons of hard-to-find fabrics, all the new lines, and great prices too. The owners are sisters. They were super sweet and we had a fun conversation that started off by them asking me what my quilting style was like... more modern or traditional. They went on and on about how fun it is to see "younger" quilters in their shop and when they met Chaney they were even more excited when she told them that she loves to sew and quilt too.
I didn't get my other quilts done and ready to bind so I went commando on vacation... sans sewing projects, that is. ;) I was bummed about that but it also gave me lots of time to read and even design a few new quilts. I obviously didn't blog either but it was kinda nice to completely unplug creatively. But after we got home, unpacked, and started the laundry I headed straight up to my studio and rolled around in my fabric.

Glad you are back to your fabric! Wondering the name of the quilt shop in Fredericksburg. I have been there twice looking for fabric shops and the only one I found was Pocketful of Posies and your photos are definitely not that shop.
Nothing's better than a good family vacation before school starts! I love how they have their bolts of fabric displayed! Thanks for sharing!
Nothing as exciting as that fabric store. I want to go there just to hear someone call me young. That makes me happy. Glad to hear you had a great time decompressing and recharging the creative well!
Welcome back home. Your holiday sounds very relaxing. I love Fredricksburg but like Mary I could only find Pocketful of Posies where the ladies were very helpful and encouraging. They even provided a comfy armchair for a weary husband. Would love to hear more about this shop, though.

I love the sisters. I was at the shop a couple of years ago. They are sweet and have reasonable prices on their fabric.

Oh, I would really like to know where that shop is located. Anything you can remember about the location? Maybe what was around it? How did you find it?
My in-laws live in fredricksburg and we will be there in a couple of weeks.
Oh I have been to that shop when I went to visit my brother in Texas and they took us there. The guys sat in the beergarden and the girls went to the quilt store. It was perfect and such a fun store. Glad u had fun.
Wow, I just ran across your blog and find it so neat that you are from Argyle, TX (Me, too! - actually Lantana, but the zip is Argyle) & that you were down San Antonio way. We lived in SA for 10 years and my daughter and her two baby girls are still there. My husband & I have spent many hours in Fredericksburg & Gruene & LOVE it so much. Annual thing in Oct each year for anniv. You speak of roller coasters, so the coincidence is even greater because my daughter worked at Six Flags Fiesta Texas in the costume shop of the theater department until baby 2 arrived this month. Glad you had a fun time!

The shop is called Things in a Room, and it's on Main Street. It's easy to miss since it doesn't say quilt shop anywhere near the sign!
