This & That

We are off to a great start this summer!  I see a lot of bloggers commenting about how they have less time to sew during the summer but I'm pretty much the opposite.  There's nothing better than getting home and having no homework, softball, etc. and Chaney asking me if we can go upstairs to sew.  Be still my heart...

I've been working on this quilt and I've almost got the top completed.  The pattern is also almost done  and will be in the hands of some kind and capable testers soon.  And BTW, thank you for all your offers to test the pattern!  I made a list and will keep everyone in mind as I write more patterns. :)

I usually dislike sewing rows together for a quilt top but I loved putting these rows together.  I guess some of it was the excitement of the unknown and watching a design come together.  This has been a really fun quilt to make so far.

In other news, all my allergy tests {I'll spare you the pics of the skin tests. You're welcome!} are done and it turns out that I'm very allergic to a lot in my environment.  Anaphylaxis from environmental allergies is "rare" which makes me very "interesting" to my doctor.  I'm so glad I could entertain him. ;)  His theory remains that something I am allergic to in the environment, cross-reacted with something I ate that night

So, since I can't order food sans dust mites, mold, various grasses, or pollens, I just have to be very diligent about carrying my Epipens.  That's not that big of a deal to me anymore because it's become a habit quickly... and I have cute things to carry my pens in. ;)

And last but not least... what is it with this song??  I'm not a big radio person but I will stop on the station anytime I hear it.  I suppose it might have something to do with thinking about how Steve and Chaney sing this song together as loud as they can when they are driving around.  Cute things like that will always make me smile. :)

I feel your pain with the allergies. I too am a proud member of the Epipen Carriers Club (surely it exists). At least your doctor said you're "interesting"; mine said I was "a mess"! haha Good luck with everything. : )

Have you seen the YouTube video of the Harvard baseball team doing Call Me Maybe? It's awesome. That's why I listen to the song every time - it reminds me of handsome 20-somethings doing a silly dance.

The quilt looks great. Glad you have some answers re: the allergy thing, and sounds like you are doing well now. What a relief for you.

Carly Rae Jepsen is from a town about 20min from where I grew up. A good Canadian girl!

I completely missed the post the first time about the trip to ICU, but a similar thing happened to a friend of mine. We were setting up for a convention and by the afternoon her face did the same thing. She went to the ER that night got fixed up and was ok. We were still trying to figure out how it happened since we all ate from the same restaurant and she wasn't allergic to anything. Come to find out they had changed the air conditioners out in the convention center a few days before and somehow fiberglass from the insulation had been coming out of the vents! The only reason we knew this is because we had black curtains up in part of the room and you could see it collecting on them. We think she ingested some of it! SCARY! Luckily she was ok. I hope you don't have anymore allergic incidents!

I heard someone refer to that song as a "weapons-grade earworm." Hee! Seriously gets stuck in my head for hours once I hear it or even think of it. (So yes, it's there right now!)

Jimmy Fallon and his band did a cute version using kindergarten instruments:). Sorry about your allergies... But glad that you have more time for summer quilting!

Wow, that's a seriously crazy allergy test. I'm sure you probably know that you can't possibly test for everything, and there could be a food that you're allergic to that wasn't on the test. Of course the cross reaction is possible too. Have you got the allergy dust covers for your mattresses yet? We did that for my son, use pillows that are hypoallergenic, have a HEPA vacuum, pulled out carpet, switched to leather furniture, etc (over a few years). All of that, along with meds, helped him a ton. At least now you know what you're dealing with and have a doctor to help you out. Oh, and you're lucky to have a daughter who likes to sew :-). My boys just don't dig it, no matter how I've tried...

Am I mistaken? Are those HSTs? I could've been a tester.

Sorry about all your allergies. Sounds awful :(

Loving that quilt!

Sounds like you've taken having allergies in stride, but must be frustrating at times. Here's hoping you won't have to use the epipens... meanwhile, they are looking pretty stylish in that zip pouch.

My Younger Grandson appears to have an allergy to rice protein. Unlike anaphylaxis, the reaction comes several hours later. His fist episode, last December, when he was just a little over five month's old, meant a trip to hospital where most of the doctors dismissed my daughter's story about rice cereal. When it happened a second time, the pediatrician thought it might be a rare food protein sensitivity and sent him to an allergist who has confirmed it. So he cannot eat rice which is inconvenient but not insurmountable. They say he will probably grow out of it.

Glad you know exactly where your sensitivities are now.
