Liberty!

I finally gave in.  I have been eyeing the Liberty fabrics for a long time now.  I've picked up a few pieces here and there but I have really been wanting to make a quilt for myself out of these gorgeous prints.

I caved yesterday when I stumbled across PickClickSew on Etsy.  She has a great selection and reasonable prices.  Because I wanted the biggest selection of Tana Lawn as possible, I decided to go with a scrap bag with 48 pieces ranging between 2" x 5" to 4.5" x 5.5" in size.

I also think it will be fun to design a quilt using every precious scrap of varying sizes.  I'm planning on pairing the prints with Essex linen in natural.  I'm thinking that the contrasting textures will give the quilt some extra depth since the blocks themselves will be fairly straightforward.

As I've been reading the quilt market posts, I've noticed several bloggers talking about how Liberty is coming out with a quilting cotton line.  When those prints hit, I bet there will be a huge frenzy around them!

Have you ever worked with Liberty fabric?  I'm interested to hear what you thought and any tips you might have!

I have a little bundle of Liberty and to me, they feel a lot like Voile. I haven't worked much with them so I can't say how much I love to work with them yet..
Can't wait to see what you'll come up with. And the mix of essex and liberty will definitely be interesting !

My advice is use with light companions. I used it with Kona
And kona was stiff, I'm planning on using couture cotton next time.
And press seams open or away from the liberty, it's pretty transparent .
Since you're doing a simple pattern it should work great!

I actually just finished piecing a quilt top entirely out of Liberty fabrics. It sewed like a breeze! I honestly didn't notice much difference but would suggest a new needle prior to starting since the fabric is a tad slippy-er than regular quilting cotton. Not sure how it will quilt - you will probably beat me to it!

They're beautiful and I think the linen will be a wonderful compliment. The thought of building a quilt out of scraps scares me a little...but sounds fun at the same time. (Yeah, I know... I'm nuts.) :)

Il ove the prints on these and I'm always about softer! I can't wait to see how they turn out.

Ah... Liberty! I used a big piece for a backing (softest backing ever) and have been using the scraps ever since. Yes it's soft and thin, a little slippery and slightly transparent seam-showing wise. I'll have to check out Etsy. Here in Japan I can only find it by the meter and it's soooo expensive. Can't wait to see what you do with those beautiful scraps!

I Love Liberty, I haven't quilted with it, but have made clothes. I agree that it is like voile so you may need a finer needle than usuaul.
