Well, I didn't finish my quilt top like I wanted to. I can't convince myself that Kona medium grey is going to work in place of ash. I'm afraid that the points of my star {since they are darker} would get lost in the darker background.
So even though I'm frustrated, let's have a giveaway! Free things always make me feel better. :)
Eleanor Burns has generously offered one Radiant Star book with the bias stripper ruler to one of my readers. Both the book and the ruler are amazing to work with and they are the reason I was able to piece my star so quickly.
How do you win?
Leave 1 comment telling me why you want to make this quilt. I know it's on some quilting bucket lists while others may want to learn precise piecing and matching points. Or maybe you have the perfect fabric for a quilt like this!
For a 2nd entry, become a new follower or already be a follower. Leave a separate comment telling me that you are a follower.
The giveaway will be open until Monday, January 30th at 10:00 am CST. Shortly after 10am on the 30th I will announce the winner and hopefully show off my finished quilt top!
Have a wonderful weekend and wish me luck in finding some Kona ash!

Why do I want to make one... I've never done one before and anything that makes the job easy is OK by me...
I Love the radiant star! and Eleanor Burns makes it look so easy. I'm a new quilter so I think this would be a bit of a challenge but with the right tools - why not! Great giveaway!
I am also a follower!

Why? I love stars and I do have a wonderful fabric line in mind I can see made up for this quilt
I have been a long time admirer of Eleanor Burns and would love to try a new tool of hers along with her book.
I am a follower already!!
I made Eleanor Burns' quilt in a day log cabin quilt several years ago. I would love to make another of her quilts!
I AM a follower of That girl... That quilt!
I'm a loyal follower!
My grandmother had a very similar one on the wall of the "nursery" (kids' room) while I was growing up. I adore anything that reminds me of her. She was the one that taught me to quilt! I'd love to make one but have always been so intimidated because traditional patterns seem so complicated. Eleanor's looks doable! Thanks for the giveaway!
Perfect points is a great idea!!!

It's a bucket list quilt for me. Growing up, my parents bought a quilt like that from the Mennonite relief auction, and it hung in our stairwell. I used to stare at it and told my parents I wanted to make one just like it.
I'm already a follower- thanks for the chance to win!
that is such a lovely quilt pattern! i've never seen that ruler before and i'd love to try it.
i follow your blog in google reader
I'm really into doing stars right now and would love to have the pattern and ruler!
Thanks so much for the giveaway!
I've been following you through thick and thin for a while now!
I want to do that star so bad because it is so beautiful. I saw one I LOVED in Madison, VA and have wanted to make one ever since. It is on the top of my WANT TO MAKE list. I would love for it to be easier!!!
I am a follower and read every post! LOVE Google reader!!!
I am a follower. I have so many irons in the fire right now this quilt is not on my radar.
Color is the most important part of quilting for me, and the radiant star has so many possibilities for color play! VermontPines at aol dot com.
I would like to make one in the Hope Valley fabrics that I've been hoarding. So far I have never tried anything with diamonds, I was too scared of all the streching and bias edges. Maybe this is a chance to tackle this? Thanks for offering this giveaway.

I've always wanted to make a lone star quilt and this will make it easy peasy! Thank you for a chance to win. :-)

I'd like to make one just to challenge myself. It's beautiful!

Would love to give this pattern a whirl and the ruler sound fantastic!

I want to make a king-size lone-star quilt for our bedroom, and have been looking at fabrics and patterns, trying to decide which ones to go with for quite a while now. This would be a fabulous pattern to use, thanks for the chance at winning it!

I'd want to make the quilt to challenge myself. I am fairly new to quilting and with three little ones and no craft room I don't get to do it as much as I'd like.
I'm also a follower and I am very glad that I am!
I've been wanting to make this quilt for a long time. I want to hang it above my stairs. I think it's a gorgeous 'for show' kind of quilt.

The radiant star would definitely be a skill builder for me as I am a relatively new quilter/sewer. Thank you for the chance to win.
I took a class from Eleanor last June, and she mentioned that this ruler was in the pipeline. I have been watching her website for news of availability, but nothing. I want this ruler badly, so that I can make a lone star quilt I wanted to make for a long time. That book looks like it is amazing.
I am a follower already, so I'm hoping to win this book and ruler which I absolutely need.
Wow I would love to practice piecing. I've wanted to make something like this for awhile. Plus I think it would make a great quilt for my daughters bed. I'm thinking a bunch of solids in purples and grays.
This is a "bucket list" design for me, and the book and ruler would sure make it easier! I even have some fabrics that would look wonderful with this design...
... and I've been a follower for a while now.
Already a follower! I have a few of your quilts in my line-up to make!

I'v been looking for the perfect quilt to make for our new house that would go in the living room... I think this would be a perfect match! Plus I already have the fabric, just looking for a great pattern! Thanks for the give-away opp!
Leah
A lone star has been on my 'must make before I die' list for ages! I would love anything that makes it easier!
First off-Good for you for not just going ahead and finishing the quilt with the grey you had, that's what I would have done b/c when I am so close to finishing something, I want it done immediately. I would love to be able to make this quilt-it is something that has made its way to my quilting bucket list! I'm thinking I probably wouldn't create it though without the ruler-any other way seems imtimidating! Can't wait to see yours finished!
I am officially a follower now as well-I've been reading your blog for quite some time and really enjoy it.
I have an old, old quilt passed down from my grandmother that is a Radiant Star in shades of orange. I would love to try to make one of my own.
I am a follower too!
I just love those stars. They look deceptively simple
I have two reasons for wanting to make this type of quilt. First, I love the geometry and color play you can use to create a truly radiating star. Second, my husband is an astronomer and I'd like to make this design for him.

I would really like this book because I have only made block quilts. I am ready to try my hand in the piecing that a quilt like this takes.
I have seen this quilt and the book in a quilt shop. Beautiful. Seeing yours has really inspired me to add it to my list. I didn't know there was a ruler! Thanks for the chance to win!
I am a follower and love your blog!
I love seeing traditional or old-fashioned looking quilts in modern fabrics/ bright colors!
I follow, of course!
I love this! I want to make this b/c I have fabric that I overbought almost 15 yrs ago and have been trying to use up and one more quilt will use up that fabric!

I attempted Radiant Star with Eleanor Burns' first edition of the book. I actually saw her at the Road2California quilt show last weekend.I should have said hi...
I have never made one before and would love to win the book and ruler to help me get started.
I'd love to try making this star because it's beautiful and I bet no-one would believe I made it myself!
I do have the perfect fabric, how did you know? It's a batik collection that didn't get used on another project. This project would be just right for it!
I'm a long time follower.
Ok - this quilt is such a challenge, and I think I'm ready to tackle it. It is beautiful!

I have always loved Lone Star quilts but have never had the guts to make one yet. This ruler looks like it would make the piecing much easier. Thanks for the chance to win!
Although I had you in my favourites before, I am now a follower.
Thanks for another chance to win!
Love this radiant star pattern. I'm a new quilter and would love to make a quilt with it....thanks for the chance!!

I'm already one of your followers Jennifer :o)
To me this pattern is a real American classic, but way to difficult. My trust in you is huge, I believe you when you say: this will do the trick!
I've always wanted to make the radiant star, but I'm always time poor. I like the idea of this classic, being made in a more efficient manner. Thanks for the opportunity to win!
I'm already a follower of your blog.
Even though I admite them, I've never made a Radiant Star nor a Lonestar - the technique interests me, but not enough to try the y-seams. However, I would be interested in learning Eleanor Burns' technique!
I am now a follower of your blog! Thank you!
I'd love to make this quilt for TWO reasons: I've always wanted to make a star quilt, but have been too chicken... And this year is my sister's 20-year wedding anniversary. I'd LOVE to make her and my BIL this quilt for their anniversary!!
:)

I would love to learn a new technique. I like to make some challenging quilts interspersed with some fun but easy quilts.

I've been admiring this star for a while, and if you say the Eleanor Burns method makes it doable, I'd like to give it a try!
Beautiful!
Yes I'd love to learn more about this... (though I highly question the "quilt in a day" claim)... at least with a baby and toddler around!
of course I'm a follower. :)
I finally decided that I really want to make this quilt when I saw the progress you have on yours. Even though I wouldn't use all the colors you did, I love how yours looks.
I have been a follower for quite awhile now.

I have always wanted to try to make one of these quilts. Thanks for the great giveaway.
I have always wanted to make a star quilt like that and I love Eleanor's ease in describing it.

Radiant Star has always been on my list of quilts to make. I put it off because I was worried about the bias edges. But if anyone can make it easy, it's Eleanor Burns! Thanks for having the giveaway!
I'm already a follower!
The radiant star looks amazing! That's my reason. :D
I follow your blog in my reader! Thanks for the giveaway!

Since I started quilting, I've made them for friends and family, but I have yet to make one for myself. I love this pattern and would love to have this quilt for me.
And I just started following you last week.
Love Eleanor Burns and now that I have seen yours, I love the Radiant Star. I would love to try to make one.
It's a truly beautiful quilt that is timeless. Made with easier techniques means even I could make one! Thanks for the giveaway. lexilucas@gmail.com

I've always wanted to make this quilt, it is so beautiful. My grandmother made quilts using this quilt pattern and gave her quilts to family & friends. I'm blessed to have my fathers that she made. Would love to make this someday for my daughters.
The challenge of trying the piecing - the whole thing is exciting!
I have always wanted to make one of these, but it's always been WAY too intimidating...but you made it look do-able (still not easy, because judging by that star, you're light years ahead of me). Love this giveaway, thank you!
I love that quilt and want to try the technique and tool!

The first quilt I ever owned I bought at a little thrift shop in Mena Arkansas. It was many years ago it has now vanished I am guessing with one of my boys or one of their friends, you inow how things weem to walk away over the years. It was very similar to the Radiant Star quilt. I would love to try to make one that is similar to the one I lost.

I have always wanted to make a star and am interested in using glue instead of pins. I would like to use some of my William Morris stash for this - timeless classic.
I would love to make a radiant star quilt, and I love Eleanor Burns. She is so funny.I like the classical look of this quilt.

owwww it's lovely!
and... I am a follower!
That is completely out of my comfort zone and a technique I haven't mastered at all.
Plus, the design is different than any of the quilts I've ever tried.
I've never made a star quilt and oh so want to... Eleanor Burns has the reputation of publishing great directions and techniques for accuracy, which this quilt requires. What a challenge! I would love to win this book and tool so can make a Radiant Star in my lifetime. Plus, I can practice throwing the scraps over my shoulder for good luck! Thanks for the chance.
p.s. I too like Kona Ash better than the charcoals.
I have always loved this pattern. Thanks for the cool giveaway.

I want to make this quilt, and have for many years as my great-grandmother made a quilt like this and it's starting to fall apart. This is the only quilt I inherited. I think it is one of the prettiest quilts and I want to make several to pass along, especially since I'm from Texas. Thanks for the giveaway.
I now follow your blog. Thanks for the giveaway.

Oh I'd love to make a quilt like this. I have a UFO from a few years ago of a wall hanging something similar to this quilt. I was not able to get it all matched up so in the bag it went. hehe. I'd love to try Eleanor's pattern and ruler.
Thank you for the giveaway and a chance to win.

Proud to be a follower of your very informative and interesting (and usually pretty funny) blog!!
I would love to make the Radiant Star because way back when in the 1980s my mom and I took a Quilt in a Day class to make our first quilt--it took much longer than one day!! I love Eleanor Burns and would like to make a more challenging quilt using her great directions. Thanks for the giveaway!!
This pattern looks challenging. But I want to try new things. And I think this pattern would look awesome with solids :)
