... because I have a very short attention span.
I suppose that things are just too interesting and exciting around our home. That and I kept stopping every 15 minutes to show Steve my progress.
Yesterday I focused and had the remaining 7 star points put together in about an hour. My secret?

Elmer's Clear {Washable} School glue.
When I decided to do this review, Eleanor's son, Orion {coolest name ever, BTW}, made sure to suggest that I use a glue stick instead of pins. The only glue stick in our house was one that had purple glue so I asked The Internet and the answer was Elmer's.

My first try left me thinking that I could pin faster so I tried that too. I might have pinned a little faster but once I started doing this assembly line style, I flew. It was amazing! Just a tiny dot where each seam matches made things so easy.
It took me another 30 minutes to put the star points together. All I have left is to swirl the center seam of the star so it will lay perfectly flat. And BTW, this star is huge! I can't even hold it point to point or get all of it to fit in my iPhone lens.
Tonight I'm hoping to do the squares and triangles around the star and then tomorrow night I hope to add the borders. I waited to pick the border fabrics and I'm so glad that I did because I'm really excited about what I came up with while piecing the star. I think it will fit the overall feel of the quilt well. :)
Now that I'm confident in the process and the steps I know that I could make one of these in a day. For real. Eleanor's instructions are that good!
I'll save the rest for my full review. Oh, and I also get to giveaway a copy of the book and the magical bias stripping ruler so stay tuned for that!

Linking up for Fabric Tuesday too!

Very cool star! I love using Elmer's glue. I use it for bindings and in QAYG when I join the blocks. Best kept secret in quilting!
Oh my gosh...I can't believe how fast you got that together! Fantastic!
Jennifer, it's an amazing star! I have a friend that's done something very similar and I'm always impressed every time I see it. Looking forward to the rest of your process!
Oh my gosh, it looks amazing! Can't wait to see more. :)
P.S. Thanks for the recommendation of "Love Walked In" - I got it from the library and have really been enjoying it. Only a few chapters left. I hope she ends up with Teo..... (no telling!)
In a day? Really? Amazing. It's beautiful.
Stunning
That is beautiful! I haven't attempted a big star like that yet.
I love using glue in my quilting. I use all kinds, but glue stick has been my favorite. I'll have to try Elmer's. Thanks for the tip. I decided a long time ago that if carpenter's could use glue to hold things together before they nailed, I could do the same with my quilting. :)
Fantastic looking quilt! I've used glue before when appliqueing, but I never thought to use it when piecing, I'll have to give it a go!
Wow, you did all that in a day? I am amazed.
Awesome!! That came together quick. Glue, eh? I like it (anything to avoid pins).
I love your star!! I'd still be working on getting the points sewn together! Way to go! I can't wait to see how it progresses. I really love the colors!
Oooh, I love it! I can't wait to see what this one looks like with the borders!
Beautiful! I never thought to use washable school glue -- great idea!
Very nice! You'll have to tell us just how you used that glue instead of pins.
That star looks great and the tip about Elmer's glue is a very good one - and so simple. Thank you for sharing it and I will try to get some before I assemble my star. Radiate, Jennifer!
Looking good!
Oh wow, love how that's come together! Looking forward to seeing it in its entirety
It looks FABULOUS! You are amazing!
Your star looks amazing, and I can't believe how much you've gotten done (I figured that the author of the pattern must've been underestimating the time involved in making the quilt by several times over when you posted about it earlier)
It does look fabulous, too tempting...
; )
Super impressive. From one who has made this quilt...it isn't a cinch. Good for you.
Wow. What a beautiful star. You did an awesome job.
Ahh you cracked me up with your title! Btw I just saw Elanor Burns at the Road to California Quilt Show...love her. :) Wonderful job on the lonestar... can't wait to see it finished.
I have found most of her quilts are NOT a quilt in a day. But she DOES have some great patterns and ideas. Wow. Glue, huh? I would never have thought of that solution.
