All of Denyse Schmidt's {and other premium} collections are on sale for $5.99/yd at Joann's today through the 3rd!
I picked up the dark blue print for the backing for my quilt along. And I guess those other prints just happened to tag along. 40% off is awfully hard to resist.
But is it just me or do some of the Sugar Creek prints feel like a lower quality cotton? I also thought it was strange that some felt fine {like the green print in the pic} but then others felt grainy. Weird, but then again it could just be me. However, all of the Daisy Mae prints felt like good quality which makes me happy because I really love that line!
So now you know what I do on my lunch break. I
Now if I can just get Steve to believe that... ;)

I have heard others say that they didn't think the hand on this collection was as nice.. I am still hoarding yards of that first line...
Droooool......
Right...I don't think you are going to pull that off. Husbands are smarter than we think. Flea Market Fancy is supposed to be reintroduced in the near future. I would like to get my hand on those.
No, it isn't just you. Those prints do feel coarse, and still feel coarse after washing. I'm rather disappointed.
I'm glad you are so good to us! ;-P
I just picked up a few yards today too, and I thought the same thing.
You know, when word first came out on these fabrics at JoAnn's I checked them out because I was so late to the party with the Flea Market Fancy...and I couldn't bring myself to buy more than a few third-yard cuts (you know the cutters there loved that too!) because I wasn't feeling the quality. Even after washing I wasn't feeling the quality compared to other $9+ per yard fabric. I do look forward to the reissue of the FMF in the early spring though.
Thanks for your diligent research, my friend!
I greatly appreciate all of your research. LOL! My husband will too when I explain how much $$ I 'would have' spent without this sale!
Thank goodness I live in France. I cannot be trusted at a 40% off fabric sale.
Seriously...if someone has researched fabric quality from Joanns and Beverly's versus quilt stores I'd like to know. I believe those chains often carry inferior product at regular high prices. I do everything I can to keep the small quilt stores open.
I really love some of the prints in the Sugar Creek line, but the quality is keeping me from buying any. Maybe at 40% off I can feel OK about it.
Since the fabric making had left the USA back in the late 80's/early 90's, grey goods have been made in the far east and the quality was based on where it was made. I had a client who designed linens for several major retailers and said the price point of an item would determine where they would manufacture. I remember her saying India had some of the best quality and where they would have the higher end products produced. Not sure what it's like today but I always check manufacturing country and find most NOT from China are the better quality. Just something to check out for yourself next time you go fabric shopping.
And I agree about supporting your local quilt shop/online shop vs the chain stores.
