Name {inspiration}

Pin It

While making a quilt do you ever have a name for the quilt rolling around in your head?  I do.  Sometimes it's a great name and other times, well...

This quilt is a gift for a baby boy and the shower is tomorrow.  I don't want to show it until it's been given but the blocks are traditional snowball blocks.  I have always wanted to make a snowball quilt and thought it would be an adorable idea for a boy.

The fabrics are a wood grain {love it!} and Pooches & Pickups by Laurie Wisbrun.  I purchased all the fabric from one of my favorite online stores, Fat Quarter Shop...

So what name is going through my head as I'm sewing?

Balls to the Wall

I work in a male dominated industry and that is a very common phrase thrown around.  So I will blame that title on my work environment, not my mind. ;)

Fortunately in the middle of the night I finally used the dogs in the fabric as inspiration and came up with the hopeful name: Go, Fetch!

How does that sound?  Any other suggestions??

Driving (Pooches & Pickups) through wooden (the other fabric) snowballs (the pattern)

Thanks for the chuckle this morning! Go Fetch is more appropriate for a baby, but the other is pretty funny!

Dogs LOVE Trucks (it's funnier if you say it like the car commercial)

Hahaha! I love it! I name my quilts too, but never anything as funny as that! :)

Yes, I try to name nearly everything, even the fused glass creations that Mark makes. He always gives me weird looks when I name them. But I think names especially appeal to women. My personal best: metrotextural.

Balls to the Wall is pretty darn funny. But maybe Go Fetch is more boy appropriate, at this time at least.

I almost always give my quilts a name. It's not always an inventive one, but it's a name. My current work is called 'Sanctuary Kaleidoscope', which describes the fabric and the pattern.

I'd love for you to hand the quilt over and give the name as 'Balls to the Wall', then be ready with the camera! Classic.

Perfect! I say it's a quilt with two names - depending on which generation you're talking to! The BTTW quilt!

I give my quilts a name too, but "Summer Charms" and "Spring Garden Embroidered Quilt" are more mundane than the names you come up with! LOL!
