You know the outtakes at the end of movies where we get to see that even the most polished actors make mistakes? I was busy working on a new quilt this weekend and as I quilted along I got to know every square inch of the quilt and it's bloopers.
I can't share the entire quilt yet but I thought it would be fun to share some of the funnier moments.
But can a quilt really be funny? My quilts can. Let's just say that fussy cutting isn't a strength of mine.

I promise that it's OK to laugh! I think that everyone needs a good laugh at themselves every once in awhile. My saving grace is that there are lots of fussy cut squares that turned out perfectly and I am absolutely loving this quilt.
Now, there's been a lot of... ummm... whatever you want to call it... over Sherbet Pips lately but as I worked on this quilt I really developed an appreciation for the fabric design. The characters are so endearing and detailed and the supporting fabrics of the line are great. Sometimes I look at a line and I don't really "get" how each of the fabric designs fit into the overall line but that's not the case here. And it's one thing to put computer-aided fabric designs out there but to be brave enough to put your hand drawn illustrations into a debut fabric line takes a lot of guts so well done, Aneela!
And lastly, thank you to each one of you who commented, emailed me, or sent kind thoughts my way after reading my last post. I had no intention of making that post about depression but that's what seemed to stand out... well, that and how I wear a bicycle helmet during tornado warnings.
Last week was one of the darkest weeks I have had in quite some time and as Steve was reading the comments yesterday he so nicely put it, "see, honey... you really are not alone...". And he's right; unfortunately I'm not the only one but fortunately for those of us who do struggle, we are certainly not in it alone.
I love blogging, sharing what I'm working on, and connecting with other quilters but sometimes it's the unexpected connections that mean the most. Thank you!

haha - you made my day with your outtakes! And I got out my Sherbet Pips this weekend, too, and started cutting & piecing - just to celebrate a line of fabric I fell in love with the minute I saw it!
Those outtakes are funny... my sister called me a couple of weeks ago about a quilt I made for her grandchildren... I used a sweetwater fabric with words and one of them got cut off in the seam allowance. The quilt now reads "fu"... oops..
I got a huge laugh- ESP the pup running from the seam allowance! I think pips are adorable but the pink would send my boys running. Aneela, please do a boy line!!! This morning I called my gym about a checkup. Things have been very weird for me and I am gonna tell her it has to be hormones of happy pills! I am not myself and I don't want my boys to remember a distortion of what I really am. I'm very private but since you are so open I will tell you Steve is right...you're not alone!

Instead of running from the seam allowance, I think that the dog wants to be part of the quilt so bad he is running to get onto the square! Your post gave me a much needed smile today. Thanks so much for sharing your bloopers. :)
I loved the bloopers! And yes, we all make them whether we want to admit it or not. After I've quilted a sample quilt, I know every tiny mistake. I always take it in to the shop with a lump in my throat and a fear that they will point out all my mistakes.

Thanks for the laugh; I just loved the headless Pip. Looks like something I would do. Its wonderful that we can sit back and laugh at ourselves and know that everything doesn't have to be perfect. A perfect quilt would be boring!! It's the little imperfections that give it character, don't you think?
That is so funny! I've always steered clear of "people" prints for this very reason. When I was about 8 years old, my Grandma gave me a flannel nightgown that had a "weiner dog" print (don't ask, it was the '70's) and on the side seam was a dog with 2 heads and no tails. Plus one head was upside down. I did NOT like that nightgown!!!!! Guess I was scarred for life with that one :)
You are so funny about your outtakes. I would not have even noticed! I have a layer cake of Sherbet Cakes and I think I've found a good pattern for it.
I had a bad experience with stripes this week so I know what you mean. It was not pretty.

I love your outtakes - the headless girl made me laugh out loud (thank goodness I'd swallowed my mouthful of tea!) and the dog is so cute...I think he needs a speech bubble saying "Wait for me...that's my square!". Thanks for making me chuckle - I love your blog and I mentally cheer when a new post pops up in my reader! I hope you're having a good week, take care.

I love the out-takes! I got a little chuckle out of your post! I think more of us should share our "less then perfect" squares. It's the little "out-takes" that make our quilts special!

I have been reading like mad, trying to catch up with the blogs I follow after being sick. I don't think I commented on your last one, but I did read it. I'm on the board of a new organization, the Jason Tennies Foundation (www.jasontennies.org) & we're having our first event in a couple weeks - a Walk for Mental Health. It's the first event we know of, where all of the major mental health associations will be represented - NARSAD, NAMI, Mental Health America, Autism Society, Depression & Bi-Polar Support Alliance.... we are working to bring mental health issues out of the dark & into the light.
At my last quilt guild meeting, I was one of several of our members that spoke about the charities we personally support. I am NOT a very good speaker, but I got thru' it! lol One thing I did was ask every 4th person to hold up their hand, then told them that approximately 26% of the population is affected by mental health issues in one way or another. We don't need to hide crazy cousin Clem in the attic any more! We need to find ways to help instead.
I'm glad that you're doing better this week & that you can share with us, good weeks & not-so-good weeks.

I'm still laughing! It reminds me of family gathering photos where someone's either moving or their eyes are closed. I especially love the dog block - in or out - which is it going to be? Thanks for sharing.
Okay, I did actually laugh out loud, but in a GOOD way. Promise! And I'm so NOT over sherbet pips. In fact, I have a couple of quilts planned, which is good since I have one charm pack, two jelly rolls, and a lot of 1/2 yard cuts!

I'm not the first one to say that I love outtakes and I think the pup running from the seam allowance is precious. I might have to do that on purpose!

Have just found your blog and love these outtakes. You have a headless pip, do you also have a floating head of pip anywhere? I think that would be hilarious. You know, this post makes me want to make a quilt that is entirely made of "oops" cuts. It could be fun to see what mischief I could get up to. Nbut then again, I'd be the first to admit that I'm a little odd :)
