Disclosure

I finished two quilts this weekend.  YAY!  But in my feverish free motion quilting yesterday and in the spirit of full disclosure:  I had a bit of a sewing emergency.

Steve was outside supervising the hanging of the Christmas lights {which is another post for another day...} and Chaney was down the street at a friend's house.  Buddy & Gus were in the back yard howling at the people on our roof and I was in my studio sewing away.  And then it happened... my needle went through a few extra layers of fabric and I was stuck.  I quilted my sleeve to the quilt.

I'm a bit of a whirlwind when I'm quilting and my scissors were no where to be found.  My phone was across the room or I would have taken a picture of my predicament and then I would have called Steve.

So with one arm stitched to the quilt I started to panic... no scissors, no phone, no one around.  By chance, with my free hand, I reached underneath the quilt and found my seam ripper.  PHEW!  It took me several minutes to extricate myself from the quilt and the machine but I lived to tell about it.

When Steve came back inside I told him what I did and he just shook his head and laughed.  And then as he was walking away I heard him say, "if I had a blog, I'd blog about that..."

I'll show one of the new quilts tomorrow.  I'm SO excited about how it turned out and I can't wait to share the story behind it.

I was awfully worried about you until the point where you said you were able to reach your seam ripper! That is a funny story, but darn, wouldn't that have been embarrassing to be found stuck there by someone. Happy to hear you're okay, and can't wait to see more of your finishes!

Oh, I've done that plenty of times! A few times I ended up with such a mess I had to cut my sleeve loose. Better my sleeve than the quilt!

LOL. That's funny. I can't believe I've never done that, though I did lock myself in the backseat of my car (damn child locks) in a crowded mall parking lot when I was in my third trimester.

HAHAHAHA. That? Is one awesome story.

LOL I probably would have picked up my sewing machine and walked outside with it. Good think you didnt have to embarrass yourself too bad. LOL

Lol! Totally something I would do. So glad I'm not alone. :)

I did that once, only I was home alone, working on my longarm and sewed my pinky to the quilt. I couldn't reach anything...it was scary! I managed to get the needle out of my finger, took myself to the ER and got a tetanus shot. THAT was embarrassing! I'm glad you were able to unattach yourself!

Very funny! Thanks for sharing. I've come close to getting my finger in a fury of free motion, but nothing yet

That is the best, I can see it! I am glad you were able to get unsewn with little damage I hope.

Not to worry - you aren't the first and you won't be the last to do that. LOL! Looking forward to seeing your finished quilt.

Thahahaaaa! No quilts were harmed in the making of the quilts... how's your sleeve? That must have been a bizarre few minutes deciding what to do. Glad you shared! Can't wait to see the quilts!

Oh no! I can't say that I've ever done that, but I've sewn other things improperly. =) I would've liked to see you franticly trying to figure out what to do...and your hubby is a riot! He should blog. =)

That is just too funny! Glad you were able to get loose before you were caught in such an undignified position!

Better your sleeve than the arm in it!

I'm sorry to laugh....but it IS pretty funny! I just read a blog post about a quilter's trip to ER after swallowing a pin....who knew sewing could be so dangerous!

I must admit that I too have sewn THROUGH my finger, and was reading your post with real dread until I got to the sleeve part. So glad it wasn't worse! But thanks for the laugh!

Toooo cool for school.....I have never heard of that one before and I had a chuckle at your expense...glad it was'nt your finger or thumb...lucky you had the ripper close by....look forward to seeing what you sewed yourself tooooo...

Oh you poor thing, thanks for the laugh! Thank heaven it was only a sleeve. My friend Cindi quilted her finger and couldn't reach anything - not the phone, the back of the machine to turn it off, her husband, NOTHING! She had quite a wait until her husband heard her hollering.
So many similar stories - now I live in dread. If it happens, I just KNOW it will someday happen to ME.

Oh, I'm glad everything turned out okay and it was only your sleeve! It's so great when events like that turn out to be funny stories to tell later!

Thanks for the good laugh. I sewed through my finger one time...I have only done it once and I told myself never again.

Oh, yikes! I think I would've been screaming at the top of my lungs.

Hilarious! I guess I better make sure I have something within arm's reach of my machine, because I would so do this!
