A Quilt Along?

The quilt I made from my first quilt along...
I'm just throwing this out there to see who would like to join me.  I have a quilt I'm about to begin and I figured it would be a lot more fun to document the process here and have some friends stitch along with me.

All you need for the quilt top is 1 charm pack {or 42 5" squares}, 1 yard of a coordinating solid, and 2 yards of a neutral solid.

This will be a simple, modern design {with the option for a little wonkiness} perfect for quilters of all skill levels.  Over 6 weeks I will show you every step in the process, from choosing your fabric all the way to how to bind your quilt, so even if this is your first quilt it will be like having your best quilting buddy helping you every step of the way. :)

Every Friday I will post the instructions for the upcoming week since I know that a lot of us sew on the weekends.  The following Thursday I'll post my progress and give everyone a way to link up to show their progress too.  And please, don't be intimidated by the timeline.  Feel free to go at your own pace because I never want to be the cause of someone quilting out of obligation... ;)

Who's in??  I am!

Tomorrow I'll unveil the design, post my fabric selections, and talk about choosing your fabrics...

Edited to answer a few questions:
  1. Yes!  This quilt along will be great for a brand new quilter.  The cutting is simple and the piecing is simple.  I was a new quilter not too long ago so I'll keep everything as basic as possible :)
  2. I have not made the quilt; I will be working at the same pace that I'm posting each week.
  3. You could easily make your 5" squares from fat quarters or fabric you have on hand.  A lot of variety isn't that important...
  4. Yes!  There is a button on my left sidebar that you can grab. I will love you if you do! And BTW, please let me know if the button doesn't work... this is my first try at one of those.

Hi Jennifer, what a lovely idea to organize a quilt-along.

I might want to join, because I have some christmassy charm packs. So I’m curious to see your design tomorrow!

Count me in! I've got a few charm packs in my collection that I'd love to do a project with. Great idea! I haven't done a quilt along before, but I'm with you, it sounds like fun :)

As a new quilter I would love to join in. Have some great charms packs just waiting.

Well, I'm interested in joining, but the only charm packs I have, go with a set of Fat Quarters and I really wanted to make something utilizing all of it together...sooooo...I either have to get busy cutting out squares...or something else. Hmmm....I'll be coming by tomorrow...because I just wonder if I can do it without the charm pack...how much variety do I need in the 42 squares? Thanks!

By ALL skill levels, do you mean even people who have only ever completed the top of a table runner? I've really been wanting to jump in and join a quilt along, but I don't know if I'm ready.

Funny to see your post, I was literally just looking at a Simple Abundance charm pack in my stash thinking I needed to find something to make with it! I'll be stopping by tomorrow to see what you have in mind!

Yeah! I'll most likely join :)
I have some charm packs waiting to be used, and picking a pattern is the worst part for me. It's great to get someone else to do that for me ;)

I have those supplies in my stash, so I might be up for this too. Love the pattern, and love the idea of using just charms!

I'm in! I've made a few quilt tops, but I've never actually done the quilting! And I've done so much embroidery lately that I'm missing doing quilts:)

Thanks for your updates! I was looking through my fabric stash tonight and I think I have something that might work.

Your button didn't work for me when I tried to add it to my blog...so not sure what's up. Something wrong with the code?

I might give it a shot. I don't have any charm packs, but I have more fabric than I know what to do with so I'm sure I have something that will work.

I have some (not remotely) modern prints and a (not exactly) solid grey and a little black and white... I've been looking for a kind of modern way to cut into this stuff: I'm in!

Sounds fun, I may end up quilting along a little behind as I have slightly over-committed myself for Christmas. I really like the idea of a quilt with charm squares though. I have lots that I bought when I first quilting but only have 1 of each and never know what to do with them so can't wait to see what you do.

I have so many projects going, but what's one more? I'm in!
