This might be one of my all time favorite quilts. It was fun to make, the pattern {Kate Conklin} was awesome, I love the colors, and I can't help but feel like the quilting is something unique.
When I posted about the quilt top, I got several comments about the colors and me being unafraid of color. In this quilt I simply picked my focus fabric {Anna Maria Horner Good Folks} for the panels and used those colors as inspiration for the rest of the quilt. In picking fabrics for your quilt, when in doubt, follow the designers for color combinations and inspiration... they are designers after all! ;)
My inspiration for the wood grain quilting? A lonely charm square sitting on my sewing table. This method of quilting was a lot of fun and mentally more interesting than line after line of straight line quilting because I get bored easily and this quilting kept me engaged. And the texture... love it!

Love the design and the quilt! :) However, I REALLY love the PURPLE wood grain... where did you get that fabric and what is the line and designer? I would love to have some for myself! :)
OK question about the wood grain quilt motif. Did you start at one end and meander to the other or did you move in oblong oval-ish style?

That quilt is really wonderful. And the wood grain quilting was a great idea. It's always so interesting where inspiration can come from. I was going through my stash yesterday and found a little scrap of fabric that I don't even really like that much as fabric. But....it gave me a great idea for a quilt.

Ahhh, the curse of the quilter -- too many quilts. But you love the new fabric so you make more quilts LOL! It's beautiful -- great job!

Okay, how did i miss it again?? You have to tell me next time you make one of my designs!! I love it. You've done a fantastic job. I want to see the woodgrain quilting - you'll have to do a close up. Maybe I should set up a flickr group?
I came upon your site while googling "wood grain quilting patterns". I love your quilt, it is beautiful!
I am a beginner quilter, and have finished hand-piecing my first sampler quilt together. It has 9 squares, and the instructor of the class I took called it "lap-size". Last night I basted it all together in preparation for hand quilting. But I am stuck deciding what pattern to quilt! The sashing I used is a wood grain fabric, which I love! I was toying with the idea of doing the entire quilt with a wood grain pattern. I wonder if you could tell me more about what you did. Our instructor had advised that the lines should run in both directions, to keep batting in place. So did you criss-cross the lines every so often (rather than having them mostly parallel)? Also - it appears that you did many lines very closely together. Since I am a beginner and doing this by hand, I wondered if I could spread the lines out a little more.
I'd appreciate any thoughts and advice you could provide!!
